We experiment with a lot of ideas at Live Labs. Eventually, all of our projects graduate from the lab as new products or features, prove a concept is viable, or are otherwise spun down to work on new things.

Political Streams

Political Streams let you see the most popular stories from news sites and blogs across the Internet.  Arrows let you know whether the stories are increasing or decreasing in popularity and frequency.  And you could see the people and places most mentioned online as well.

It was the first Live Labs application written on our Social Streams platform, which mines social media including blogs, newsgroups and Web sites.  Because of the intense interest in the US presidential election this fall, it gave us a great opportunity to try it out, since more people were interested in political news and blogs.  Now that the election is behind us, we have decided to retire Political Streams for now.

Deepfish

A mobile web browsing experience that is closer to the desktop experience, Deepfish's zoom-able interface and cue map allow you to quickly access the information you care about over the web without ever losing track of where you are.

The Deepfish technology preview has been retired, effective July 31, 2008.  Thanks to all of those who enthusiastically supported Deepfish.
